Venerable Master Hsing Yun, born in 1927 in Jiangsu, China, holds the distinction of being the 48th generation of the Linji School. After relocating to Taiwan in 1949, he founded the Ilan Buddhist Chanting Association in 1952, laying a significant foundation for the propagation of Dharma. In 1967, he established the Fo Guang Shan Monastery, which plays a crucial role in advancing Humanistic Buddhism through initiatives in Buddhist culture, education, and charitable efforts.

Master Hsing Yun's influence extended globally as he established over 200 branch temples and 16 Buddhist Colleges in major cities worldwide. Notable educational institutions include Pumen High School, Nanhua University, Fo Guang University, and the University of the West in the United States and Nan Tian University in Australia. His contributions also encompass media outlets such as Merit Times Daily News and Beautiful Life Television.

In 1991, he founded the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA), where he currently serves as President of the BLIA World Headquarters and holds the title of Honorary President of the World Fellowship of Buddhists.
